If you already have a Vanilla installation, you cannot simply "update" it to GApps via the UI. You generally need to clear your current images: waydroid gapps image
Google Play Services is notorious for background battery and RAM consumption. If you are on an older laptop, the Vanilla image with MicroG might be a faster alternative. Open your terminal and run the following command
